For those of you who have read my very first post, you know that I have IBD. What’s that? Well, it’s irritable bowel disease which includes Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis, the doctor at colonoscopy said it could be Crohn’s disease, while me GI said it’s ulcerative pancolitis. Basically, it’s an inflammation of your digestive tract, and sometimes it can only affect your anus, sometimes your large intestine, other times your small intestine, your stomach, mouth, or your oesophagus. It’s an auto-immune disease and there is no cure for it as yet.
Those of you who have it, or live with someone who has it (just knowing someone doesn’t do it), know what effect it has on our daily lives, and know that dealing with it requires a lot of strength, even superpower in those hardest days and nights. I was kind of happy to have found these T-shirts – not only do they empower me, but they also spread awareness about these illnesses. I mean, the words IBD, Crohn’s, or ulcerative colitis are not common knowledge so they just beg for the question What is that? Thus, you can educate people on these conditions – you never know, perhaps someone is suffering from the symptoms, but doesn’t know that (s)he has it. People generally don’t like talking about these diseases, mainly because of the ”embarassing” symptoms (diarrhea, bloody stool, stomach cramps, mucus in your stool) – I mean, they aren’t really topics for dinner conversations, are they? 😉
You can buy them on zazzle.com. If you click on the image of the T-shirt you want below, you will be redirected directly to the site.
They also have them for children:
